5 workers from a private establishment in the Province of Dinagat Islands received a total of P 202,639.89 in compliance to the findings of the Department of Labor and Employment after noting the underpayment of overtime pay and special holiday during an inspection conducted last March 28, 2022.

The payout was conducted last May 26, 2022 after three mandatory conferences witnessed by the DOLE PDISO Head Buhawe Corvera-Correa and DOLE PDISO Labor Inspector Merlie A. Bantayanon

One of the workers expressed her gratitude by saying, “Dako kaayo kog pasalamat sa akong amo kay nadawat namu ang bayad para sa among overtime. Dako na jud kaayo ni nga tabang sa amoa. Ug dako sab among pasalamat sa DOLE sa pagpahiluna aron ma tuman ang saad sa kumpanya.”

On the other hand, a representative of the establishment said, “Wala mi kabalo nga ing-ani diay ang among responsibilidad ug tungdanan, labi na kay gamay ra among negosyo. Pero karon kay na explainan na sa amo sa DOLE unsa ang among mga responsibilidad sa among mga trabahante, siguraduhon na namu nga musunod na jud mi.”

The Labor Inspection program of the department ensures a higher level of compliance with labor laws and standards.

DOLE Caraga Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao oversees and monitors the implementation of the visitorial and enforcement powers of the Secretary of Labor within the region. He lauded the field implementers for facilitating compliance of business establishments and ensuring workers receive their lawful entitlement and benefits.
