DOLE-Surigao del Sur — More than two thousand individuals attended the webinar and facebook livestreams with the intent of informing the public about the latest DOLE issuances and employment matters. The 2,217 individuals came from various callings and professions yearning to keep updated and avant-garde.

The paradigm shift brought about by the pandemic did not only change the lives of the people, but more so with the economy. The existence of technology has become immensely helpful to adapt flexible work schedules through online conferences and meetings. With the undeniable fear and horror hauled by the pandemic, people’s hunger for continuous learning prevails.

During the first episode of the webinar series held on August 13, 2020, Atty. Rechell Bazar-Apao, Mediator-Arbiter of DOLE Caraga explained the management’s prerogatives to regulate on their business as well as the limitations set forth in the law, CBA, Employment Contract Employer Policy and Practice and General Principle of fair play and justice. Along with Ms. Romelyn B. Bactol, Sr. LEO, and Ms. Josel-An E. Dua, LEO Il, of the DOLE Surigao del Sur Provincial Office, the discussion of PESO Job facilitation and DOLE TUPAD and Livelihood grants were properly discussed and explained to the viewers. Those programs were considered part of the government’s countermeasure for those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic. A total of 954 views along with 131 registered participants joined the webinar.

The second episode was on August 20, 2020 with Mr. Earl Dela Victoria, Board Secretary VI of RTWPB Caraga as the Resource Speaker. He mainly gives emphasis on the importance of a systematic and neat organization of things that can save effort and time when locating them. Ms. Genebelle B. Bal, Provincial Head of DOLE Surigao del Sur, discussed the DOLE-DTI Supplemental Guidelines emphasizing the importance of every establishment to follow health protocols to maintain safety and protection. A total of 128 registered individuals and 454 viewers participated in the livestream.

The last episode was in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Caraga Region, through the Surigao del Sur Provincial Tourism Office held last August 27, 2020 dubbed as Tourism Industry: Facing Challenges with Ease in the New Normal. The Regional Director of Department of Tourism Caraga Region Mary Jean A. Camarin, resource speaker, emphasized that the pandemic has caused 54% decline of the tourism industry in Caraga region. However, based on the consumer behavior study conducted on May 14 – 15, 2020, domestic travel will fuel tourism recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic. The activity was also a prelude to the reactivation of the Surigao del Sur Eco-Tourism Industry Tripartite Council. Ms. Romelyn B. Bactol, Sr. LEO / TIPC/ ITC Focal Person presented the salient features of Tripartite Industrial Peace Council. She emphasized that by having Eco-Tourism ITC, the same will serve as a permanent forum for discussion on issues and concerns confronting the industry. There were 77 registered participants and 473 viewers on facebook during this livestream.

The spirited and sturdy attitude of the participants domineers in these trying times-seeing every opportunity with a silver lining.
