Butuan City-The Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) conducted the first orientation on the Department Order No. 198 series of 2018 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 11058 to the Regional and Provincial Personnel of DOLE Caraga on February 15, 2019 at Alberto’s Bed and Dine.
The orientation aims to enhance the understanding of each DOLE personnel in the New OSH Law and how they can support the implementation of the law. Ms. Sylvia Valdez, the Supervising Labor and Employment Officer of the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) served as the speaker. She explained the coverage as well as the duties of employees, employers and DOLE personnel in compliance with the new OSH Law.
“I would like to highlight that the goal is not to outrightly impose a penalty but to help the establishments on how to comply”, said Ms. Valdez.
In line with the continuous effort of the Department of Labor and Employment to strengthen the compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards, there are upcoming orientations and seminars to be conducted to fully advocate the said law to the public especially to the employers. Furthermore, DOLE is ready to help in doing the eight (8) hour Mandatory OSH Seminars to companies in order to inform every Filipino worker of his/her right of a safe working environment.
“The tradition says that construction always claims lives. But now it has changed with the new OSH Law.” said Ms. Chona M. Mantilla, DOLE Caraga Regional Director.
Meanwhile, observance of OSH and strengthened all the more with the new OSH Law, on March 28, 2019, an OSH Law Orientation to the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council officers and members will be conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) at Almont Inland Resort. This orientation will tackle the 11th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) Award, Vision 1 Million and IRR of RA 11058.
