“Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho, Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”. This is the theme for the Araw ng Paggawa 2017 in which the Department of Labor and Employment-Surigao del Sur Field Office in-lined the Labor Day activities conducted both in District 1 and District 2 of the Province

On April 29, 2017, two livelihood checks assistance were released in Bislig City and in Hinatuan respectively. DOLE Undersecretary for Human Capital Development and Regional Operations, Atty. Bernard P. Olalia together with the DOLE Caraga headed by Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla, released the livelihood check worth Php 291,150.00 to Barangay Poblacion, Bislig City as accredited co-partner for the Hollow Block making cum Production of the ERPAT Rural Builders Association of Bislig and to LGU Hinatuan worth Php 976,000.00 for the Tarpaulin and Printing Press project of the Hinatuan OFW Dependents (HODA).

Olalia in his speech during the awarding ceremony. He acknowledged the DOLE Province for achieving its mandate in extending livelihood programs. He also give assurance to the beneficiaries both the LGU and the people’s organization that the Department is ready, willing and able to extend all the efforts in granting the beneficiaries the best livelihood programs that the DOLE could give.

While on May 1, 2017, workers from the government, private and informal sectors joined the DOLE-Surigao del Sur in the first Araw ng Paggawa Celebration in the province. Held in the new Tandag City Plaza, hundreds of participants actively participated the short program to commemorate the day for the workers worldwide.

The activity started with a Mass at the San Nicholas de Tolentino Cathedral of Tandag, followed by a Motorcade around Tandag City participated by the Philippine National Police of the Provincial Police Office of Surigao del Sur and the Tandag Ciy Police, the 46th IB of the Philippine Army, the Local Government Unit of Tandag City, the Samahan ng Responsableeng Manggagawa ng MMDC, Jollibee, Department of Agrarian Reform and all other government agencies and private companies.

Ms. May Velonta, the OIC Provincial Head of the DOLE–SDS, delivered the Labor Day message of the DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III. In his message to the Filipino workers, Secretary Bello reminds everyone to uphold the workers’ rights. ‘AmBisyon Natin 2040’, a long-term vision for the Philippines which aims to give all Filipino workers a stable, convenient, and assured life is the sole foundation of this year’s Labor Day theme “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho, Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”

DOLE-SDS awards again another livelihood assistance to six (6) different projects to LGU Lanuza, Tago, Hinatuan and Barangay Loyola, Hinatuan respectively. A total of Php 1.8 million were received by the beneficiaries during the Labor Day program to benefit the 382 informal sector workers of the province.

On May 2, 2017 a Jobs and Business Fair is conducted to Carrascal, Surigao del Sur to facilitate employment specially to those displaced workers of the three (3) mining companies within the municipality affected by the impending closure announced by the DENR. The DOLE-Surigao del Sur Field Office’ transition plan on this displacement of hundreds of workers include this job and business fair to facilitate employment to those willing to work again. Two (2) overseas recruitment agencies and five (5) local recruiters participated in the recruitment. The Department of Trade and Industry as partner of DOLE in the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK)—a concept in Jobs and Business Fairs (JBF) offered business opportunities, negosyo center to would be entrepreneurs.

DOLE- Regional Coordinating Council (DOLE-RCC) also brought the first DOLE Clinic in Carrascal wherein series of services offered from all the attached agencies of DOLE like the OWWA, POEA, NRCO, ECC, NLRC, NCMB, RTWP, TESDA, and the PESO.

RD Chona M. Mantilla on her message thank the local government of Carrascal headed by Hon. Mayor Vicente H. Pimentel, III and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Carrascal for the facilitation and hosting of the Labor Day Jobs and Business Fair. ©
