A total of P5,189,210.48 was released to 1,192 DOLE SPES beneficiaries from 13 implementing Local Government Units (LGUs) in Surigao del Norte as DOLE counterpart in their salaries for 20 days’ work rendered.

Facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Norte Field Office (DOLE SDNFO), 298 students and Out-of-School Youth (OSY) from Del Carmen, San Isidro, San Benito, Pilar, Santa Monica, and Pilar, Siargao received a total of P1,418,769.40.

At the same time, 894 SPES beneficiaries from the mainland province benefited P3,770,441.08. Majority of the program was implemented in the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) providing 510 students and OSY with temporary employment. Other LGUs that implemented the program included Bacuag, Sison, Mainit, Placer, Tagana-an, Tubod, and Surigao City.

The cash pay-outs were conducted simultaneously in DOLE SDNFO and implementing LGUs in partnership with the Public Employment Services Office (PESO). DOLE SDNFO SPES focal person led the activity with the help of the team in the employment facilitation unit.

During the recently conducted Basic Life Skills Orientation and Recognition Rites to 40 SPES beneficiaries from Surigao City, SPES “baby” Carlo C. Lamay testified that the program greatly helped in financing his education. Carlo is a beneficiary of the program for four consecutive years.

“Dako akong pasalamat sa SPES kay since Sr. Highschool hangtod karon nga college na ko, nakatabang jud ni sa financial needs sa akong pag eskwela, gikan sa tuition ug mga ginagmay na requirments sa school,” said Carlo. He added that working in the different offices in Surigao City Hall under SPES taught him work ethics such as being punctual which he believes would prepare him in whatever career he pursues after college.

DOLE SDNFO Head May C. Velonta vowed that the field office will remain steadfast in its implementation of SPES to help more young Surigaonons in the province.
