Surigao City – The Department of Labor and Employment released a 7-digit worth of livelihood project for the people’s organization in Socorro, Surigao del Norte on January 24, 2019. A total of 9 livelihood projects amounting to Php 6,097,610 M was released that day inspiring the Socorronhons to commit themselves for employment growth and development.

Ms. May C. Velonta, the OIC Provincial Head of Surigao del Norte Provincial office, together with Mrs. Felibeth Bonono LEO III led the release of the projects in the Women’s Center of the municipality and was participated by the Municipal and Barangay Local Government Units of Socorro. The projects realized though the joint efforts of DOLE and LGU of Socorro were: Sohoton-Tayaba Floating Restaurant, Bucas Grande Virtual Assistant Association, Socorro Hollow Block Makers Association, and the Socorro People Savings and Livelihood Association. The Barangay LGUs were also granted with livelihood projects for Tabok-Socorro Farmers Association Inc., Nueva Strella Farmers/Fishers Producers Association, Bucas Grande Agri-Fishing Organization, Del Pilar Makugihon Fishing Association, and Sitio Uba Farmers and Fishermen Association.

Mayor Denia Florano and the Peoples Organization of Socorro were thankful to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) because of the opportunities given to the people especially on employment. The place was able to bank skilled and professional workers and these livelihood opportunities will open a new horizon for them to serve their own place and lift the economic status of the locality.

The DOLE Surigao del Norte Provincial Office as well as the DOLE PDI Provincial Office will continue monitoring the progress of this project and are set to make more successful stories on the implementation of livelihood projects for 2019. Like the Socorro Peoples Organization, commitment for people’s labor and employment is one of the top priorities in DOLE.
