Several government and private agencies converged to bring in different services on employment and business at Siargao Island during the First Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Work Summit 2017 held in General Luna, Surigao del Norte, the surfing capital of the Philippines on September 24, 2017.
“This first Work Summit in Siargao gathers together employers, aspiring employees, and various agencies with the objective of facilitating jobs for the people of Siargao”, this is the message of Undersecretary Dominador R. Say of the Department of Labor and Employment, the Guest of Honor of the said event.
Hundreds of Siargaonons enjoyed the different services offered by the DOLE-Caraga RCC on their DOLE Clinic. A total of 1.043 million pesos were released by the department to 146 Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries and 41 Government Internship Program (GIP) beneficiaries. Another P941,633.00 worth financial assistance (both through accredited co-partner (ACP) and DOLE direct administration) was released to 160 informal sector workers of LGU Socorro, Surigao del Norte covering the three associations/cooperative of Rizal Fishermen Organization (40 members), Tanawan Consumer Cooperative (45 members) and the Bucas Grande Agri-Fishing Organization (BUGAFISO) (75 members).
“This Summit is very timely and very important to all of us, especially the development of Siargao is accelerating and that our constituents in Siargao will also enjoy all these services”, says Congressman Bingo Matugas of the 1st District of Surigao del Norte. He even emphasized the additional TUPAD funds under Special Project Fund (SPF) worth 3 Million pesos for Siargaonons after the SPF fund worth 3.8 Million for the GIP implementation this year will benefit many unemployed and underemployed workers of Siargao.
Two (2) beneficiaries of “Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Ma’am at Sir” of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) Caraga also receives their school supplies/kits during the opening program of the Work Summit.
DOLE-RCC Caraga included in the services available the Job Fair facilitation, DILEEP orientation, AEP Registration, releasing of Rural Workers Association certificate filed by the Siargaonons in the DOLE Surigao del Norte Field Office.
The Department of Trade and Industry, which is the partner of DOLE in the TNK facilitated clients in the business consultancy services, business name registration and BMBE registration. Different products of the associations with livelihood projects funded by DOLE were displayed in the venue of the Summit.
Other services offered for the Siargaonons were the issuance of SSS number to new members, UMID Card capture and answering inquiries by the Social Security System. The Pag-Ibig Fund also offered loyalty card capture, Multi-Purpose Loan application, and membership, while Phil-Health Surigao City Branch offers member registration, member data record printing, contribution inquiries, and other general inquiries. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) facilitated application of civil registration documents and consultation of problems encountered in civil registration documents. TESDA brought in Massage Services Scholarship for all Siargaonons, and a free haircut offered by the 30IB of the Philippine Army, and lastly, a total of 14,578 job orders both from the 3 local and 10 overseas employers who joined the summit for the job fair were offered for all jobseekers in Siargao.
The officers Siargao Tripartite Industrial Peace Council likewise took their Oath of Office before USEC Dominador Say. These officers and their members will be the conduit of DOLE in a forum for consultation and discussion among the social partners where they can generate consensus on issues and problems pertaining to employment within Siargao Island.

Tamayo, the President of RIFISOR of Socorro after he together with the members of the association receive the livelihood assistance awarded personally by USEC Dominador R. Say, Congressman Bingo Matugas, DOLE Caraga Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla and Vice Governor Arturo A. Egay Jr.
TNK is the Blueprint for Decent Employment and Entrepreneurship for 2017-2022 signed by the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department of Trade and Industry. This aims to offer employment opportunities through the conduct of job fairs and build entrepreneurial culture in local communities such as Siargao Island, thereby bringing the government services closer to the people. This is the second TNK within the province in partnership with the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte headed by Governor Sol F. Matugas.©dolesdnfo
