As part of the 88th Founding Anniversary of the Department of Labor and Employment, the DOLE Province of Dinagat Islands Satellite Office has conducted the Project Angel Tree 2021. The Project Angel Tree, a component of the DOLE Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program, provides an array of social services that range from food, clothing, educational assistance or school supplies, and even work and training opportunities made available by sponsors or benefactors (‘angels’) to child laborers and their families. It aims to improve the economic and social conditions of child laborers and their families and increase the number of allies and advocates of child labor prevention and elimination.
A few of the profiled and validated child laborers in 2021 from the Municipalities of Libjo and Basilisa came together to find their wishes come true. Others were already referred to various services in the department and other agencies. It was a short but sweet morning whereby the children received with gladness gifts and other treats prepared just for them.
One of the highlights during the activity is the child receiving the keypad phone he had on his wish list. The child was overjoyed with the phone he has received, and could not help but pose with his brand-new phone. His grandfather explained, “Gamiton man jud na niya pangtawag sa iyang Papa nga trabaho sa layo. Naa na siya celfone pang-contact sa iyang Papa.”
The gifts these children wished for were not grand, but the happiness they have showed even through their facemask was undeniable. Thus, on behalf of the thirty (30) children together with parents/guardians, the office extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors for their generosity in granting the wishes of the angels.
