Before the year ends, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers of Caraga Region participated the training on Labor Management Information (LMI) Analysis and Report Writing organized by DOLE Caraga in Cagayan de Oro City on December 26-27, 2019. The trip was also an excursion activity to benchmark the best practices of PESO implementation in the region.
Upon arrival in Cagayan de Oro City on December 26, 2019, the participants together with DOLE Caraga Regional Director Chona Mantilla, Assistant Regional Director Naomilyn Abellana, TSSD Chief Annie Tangpos and PESO Regional Focal Lilian Solis visited the Office of the Mayor and Vice Mayor for a courtesy call. They were welcomed by the Secretary of the City Council, Mr. Raul Moldez, and representative of the Mayor’s office, Mr. Oliver V. Egypto. The best practices of Cagayan de Oro City were discussed that made the city as one of the best and resilient cities in the country. The strategic plan for the recovery of the city after Typhoon Pablo was highlighted. The said typhoon hit Cagayan de Oro last 2012 that caused massive devastation in the city.
The team also visited the city’s PESO Office as part of the benchmarking activity. They were presented with the achievement of the office in the past years. Programs implemented and action plans were showcased. The office aimed to reach a wider range of its future programs to attract more PESO applicants.
Ororama Supercenter, one of the active partners of PESO CDO, was benchmarked for the Jobstart Program. Miss Velga V. Buna, Junior HR Manager, gave an orientation of the Ororama chain of stores including its history, vision, mission and goals among others. She also showed the status of the implementation of Jobstart in Ororama with an absorption percentage of 43% by which out of the 7 applicants, 3 were successful in completing the cycle and got hired. She further discussed that the establishment is continuously collaborating with PESO CDO for their in-house recruitment and job fairs.
The training for LMI Analysis and Report Writing was conducted on the second day, December 27, 2019. Facilitated by Mr. Virgilio Guillermo, the managers were taught about the basic components of the LMI and its impact in the labor force. Workshop on how to compute the labor indicators using the yearly employment and underemployment data was administered. The PESO Managers were grouped according to their respective province for the activity. Each group presented their work and explained the step-by-step procedure of their computation.
