On May 17, 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment Agusan del Norte Field Office (ADNFO) released P927,305.00 worth of livelihood assistance to thirty-one parents/guardians of profiled child laborers through the local government of Brgy. Bobon, Butuan City as accredited co-partner.

The release of livelihood assistance to parents of identified child laborers is part of the department’s strategy to assist their families under the Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP). CLPEP is one of the flagship programs of DOLE that contribute to the Philippine Program Against Child Labor (PPACL) with a vision of a child labor–free Philippines. CLPEP mainly focuses on the elimination and removal of children in all kinds of child labor. It also aims to uphold the rights of the children including their protection from all forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination, and other conditions prejudicial to their development.

Barangay Bobon is one of the identified barangays in Butuan City during the 2021 implementation of CLPEP. Seventy-eight child laborers were identified and thirty-one of which are recipients of livelihood assistance to augment their family income.

Various kinds of livelihood projects were requested by the parents/guardians of child laborers such as carpentry and welding starter kits, laundry livelihood starter kits, sari-sari store with “bigasan” enhancement, farming tools, equipment starter kits, and cooking starter kits.

“As we join the celebration of the World Day Against Child Labour in June, we hope that the intensified efforts of DOLE and partner agencies in providing assistance to the children and their families will significantly contribute to our goal of a child labor–free country,” DOLE Caraga Regional Director, Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao said.
