TUPAD after the storm

Amid the ongoing pandemic, the department has immediately allocated funds through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantages/Displace Workers (TUPAD) to provide relief after the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Odette to hard-hit stricken provinces. One of which is the Province of Dinagat Islands.

TUPAD is an institutionalized, community-based amelioration program aimed at helping displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers during calamities, both natural and manmade.

For this implementation, beneficiaries were employed for four hours a day for ten days and were paid based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region.

DOLE PDISO facilitated the release of Php 11,747,200.00 benefiting 3,671 eligible beneficiaries. Through the coordination with the congressional office and provincial local government unit, the office was able to expedite the release of salaries to the Dinagatnon beneficiaries. In just a few weeks after the storm, each of them received Php 3,200.00 for the 10-day work duration.

“Nagpasalamat kog dako sa tabang nga inyong gihatoag sa amo. Nakatabang gyud ang TUPAD sa DOLE labi na na naagian mi og bagyo. Naa nami pangpalit og sin sa atop.”, said Joan Elano of Brgy. San Jose, Cagdianao.

Mr. Montano Juntilla of Brgy. Dona Helen, Basilisa also shared, “Daku jud kug katabnag ning TUPAD sa tagsa tagsa nga pamilya labaw na sa mga nawad-an og trabaho tungod sa Odette.”

It was not the holidays the Dinagatnons hoped to end 2021 with. But the emergency employment is providing them with relief to start rebuilding their lives.

Pagpadayon ng DOLE PDISO

DOLE PDISO regular and support staff were not spared, from the onslaught of the typhoon. And yet they did not fail to come for work, and even extend their time as the office continues to assist in the effective implementation of TUPAD. They fulfilled their duties alongside their efforts to build back their homes and tend to their families’ needs.

With careful planning and resourcefulness despite the limitations brought about by the typhoon, DOLE PDISO has completed the releases of all salaries and is completing the liquidation documents.
