Job mismatch is one of the pressing issues that concern the country today. In an interview, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that job-skill mismatch is one of the reasons why sometimes an applicant is not hired. In this issue, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) made an initiative to help applicants assess themselves and decide which job to choose.

In this instance, a Caraganon jobseeker is grateful to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) program which is the Philippine Talent Map Initiative (PTMI).

Ludilyn Sugano, one of the many job-hunters who attended the Jobs Fair last May 15 at Robinsons Mall Atrium in Butuan City was thankful to DOLE for having her assessed through PTMI. “Finding a career pathway is not as easy as looking for a convenience store. It needs clear direction and guidance,” Sugano said.

Completing patiently the two-hour assessment, Ms. Sugano was able to realize the significance of the test. According to her, “PTMI is an effective tool for me to reflect on the things that I am good at and the areas of my competence that needs more improvement. In this way, I will be able to find a job that fits my skills at the same time, would satisfy my dreamed career.”

The objective of PTMI is to assess the skills and competencies of young Filipinos on 15 skills-area: Planning and Organizing, Social Perceptiveness, Innovation, Multi-Tasking, Workplace Ethics, Stress Tolerance, Self-Motivation, Problem Sensitivity, Creative Problem Solving, Teamwork, Decision Making, Critical Thinking, Math Functional Skill, English Functional Skill, and English Comprehension.
