In a span of two weeks, from April 25 to May 6, 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Province of Dinagat Islands Satellite Office celebrated the 120th Labor Day by conducting TUPAD Payouts and livelihood turnovers in the different municipalities in the province. A total of four million three hundred sixteen thousand and six hundred twenty pesos (Php 4,316,620.00) was awarded to one thousand one hundred and eighty-nine beneficiaries (1,189).

The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers, or simply TUPAD, is one of the regular programs of the department to provide emergency employment to displaced or disadvantaged workers for a minimum period of 10 days. In Dinagat, 1,186 individuals became beneficiaries of TUPAD.

Ms. Nenita Cuevas, one of the beneficiaries from Brgy. Cab-ilan, Municipality of Dinagat, PDI, expressed her gratitude, stating “Dako kaayo kog pasalamat sa DOLE kay nakaapil ko sa TUPAD. Kani nakatabang gihapon sa among kalisod tungod sa COVID unya matabang sab ning among sweldo pangpalit ug sin ug bugas. Daghan kaayong salamat.” Ms. Cuevas as among the 184 beneficiaries who received their salary last April 29, 2022, in White Beach Gym, Brgy. White Beach, Municipality of Dinagat, PDI.

In addition to emergency employment, the department also turned over individual livelihoods to three (3) beneficiaries. Ms. Alma Entrina, a resident of Brgy. Wilson, Municipality of San Jose, PDI, was one of the recipients of the Mobile Sari-Sari Store under BikeCINATION of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP). The department turned over a mountain bike, various potato chips, and other items amounting to twenty-four thousand and nine hundred seventy-five pesos (Php 24,975.00) to Ms. Entrina.

“Nagpasalamat kog dako sa DOLE, sa ilang gihatag nga livelihood pamaagi sa BikeCINATION program. Kani nga negosyo dako na kaayo ug tabang sa ako ug akong pamilya. Ako ning paningkamutan nga mulambo pa,” said Ms. Entrina during the turnover of her livelihood at the DOLE PDI office last April 29, 2022.

Another recipient is a guardian of a profiled child laborer. Ms. Felicisima Hermina, a resident of Brgy. Tag-abaca, Municipality of Basilisa, PDI, is grateful for finally receiving the materials and supplies for her Sari-Sari Store, which amounts to twenty-eight thousand and four hundred fourteen pesos (Php 28,414.00).

Ms. Hermina said, “Nagpasalamat ko nila [sa DOLE] nga bisan sa kadgay na, ila gihapon mi gitagaan ug pagtagad. Mapasalamaton mi sa DOLE kaayo.”

Lastly, Ms. Jergen Masaya received her Barbeque Grill Food House project. A resident of Brgy. Mauswagon, Municipality of Dinagat, PDI, Ms. Masaya was beyond happy upon receiving her livelihood.

According to Buhawe B. Corvera-Correa, DOLE -PDISO Provincial Head Designate, “For this year, these activities were clustered in commemoration and celebration of the 2022 Araw ng Paggawa with the theme: “Matatag na Manggagawa, Matatag na Bansa.” The provincial office has closely coordinated with the DOLE Caraga Regional Office headed by Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao to ensure the effective implementation of these programs.
