250 employees in Surigao del Sur benefited from Php 644,120.00 unpaid salaries from the routine and complaint inspections conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Sur Field Office (DOLE SDSFO) as of August 31, 2022.

The DOLE Inspection Program aims to strengthen the implementation of visitorial and enforcement powers under Article 128 of the Labor Code, as renumbered, to ensure the continuous promotion of the rights and welfare of Filipino workers.

The DOLE, through the Labor Inspectors (LIs), ensure the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) and General Labor Standards (GLS) compliance of private companies, particularly on complaince with payment of minimum wages, holiday pay, overtime pay, remittances of social welfare benefits of the workers, and labor standards. In Surigao del Sur, inspected establishments were mostly engaged in wholesale and retail industries, tourism-related, construction, manufacturing, and mining. To date, a total of 142 establishments were inspected in the province, and 22 establishments with deficiences settled the entitlements of their workers. Common violations noted during inspections are non-remittance of social welfare benefits to HDMF, PhilHealth, and SSS, non maintenance of employment records by the managements, and absence of first aider, safety officer, Fire Safety Inspection Certificate (FSIC), and OSH policies.

DOLE SDSFO continuously conducts necessary seminars and orientations to micro and small enterprises in the province to equip them with the appropriate information needed to comply with the GLS and OSH requirements.
