SIARGAO ISLANDS, SURIGAO DEL NORTE – A total of P2.7M were paid to 524 Siargaonons as salaries for their emergency employment under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Norte Field Office (DOLE SDNFO) on December 19-21, 2022.
The P2.7M covers (1) Php 840,000.00 for 160 beneficiaries in Santa Monica; (2) Php 840,000.00 to 160 beneficiaries in San Isidro and; (3) Php 1,071,000.00 to 204 beneficiaries in Dapa. Each beneficiary received Php 5,250.00 for the 15-day work assigned to them by the local government unit. The emergency work involved community tasks sucha as barangay road sweeping and canal declogging.
“First time namo naka dawat gikan sa TUPAD, dako kini na tabang sa among pamilya labi na sa akong mga anak nga studyante na Grade 8 ug Grade 12 Nga nag skwela. Dako akong pasalamat sa DOLE sa kani nga programa kay maka tabang sa among kalisod (This is the first time I’ve received from TUPAD. The salary I received is a big help for our family especially for the schooling of my children who are in Grade 8 and 12. I am thankful to DOLE for this program),” said Mrs. Emelyn Mendoza, one of the TUPAD beneficiaries from San Isidro. Mendoza is a farmer with two (2) children who are in secondary education.
DOLE TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and seasonal workers. This is one of the government’s programs to alleviate poverty in the country. To date, DOLE Caraga has released over P591M as salaries to 134, 555 TUPAD beneficiaries in 2022.
