Surigao del Norte- DOLE Surigao del Norte Provincial Office (DOLE SDNPO) released a livelihood grant worth of Php 909,273.90 payaw fishing materials to Masgad United Fisherfolks Assocation (MUFLA) of Brgy. Masgad, Malimono, Surigao del Norte thru the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP).

A brief turn-over ceremony on March 10, 2021 in Brgy. Masgad Women’s Hall Association was organized by BLGU Masgad, the Accredited Co-partner of the livelihood project. The activity was also attended by DOLE SDNPO personnel and the members of MUFLA. The fishing materials turned over included four (4) fishing engines, fishing nets, Styrofoam, fishing floats, and fishing nylon net ropes.

The members of MUFLA are small scale miners who were displaced during the shutdown of small-scale mining activities in the municipality of Malimono in 2018. The association was formed in 2019 thru the help of the Community Support Program (CSP) of the 30th Infantry Battalion of Surigao del Norte.

MUFLA President Mr. Harold Soronda expressed his sincere gratitude on behalf of the entire association. He promised to lead the members to utilize the fishing materials efficiently and make the livelihood grant sustainable.

“Payaw” is a Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) that are man-made structures purposely deployed in fishing grounds to attract pelagic fish species, most notably tunas and round scads.
