With the theme “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran“, DOLE Surigao del Norte (SDN) Field Office joined the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration through fitness and health activities participated by employees and clients.
In preparation for the month-long event, DOLE SDN began with the display of the 2022 Women’s Month tarpaulin in their office last February 28, 2022.
The celebration officially commenced on March 8, 2022, with a short program conducted by DOLE SDN, whereby employees presented a song and dance number as a tribute to all female workers.
A culmination program was then held last March 31, 2022. Health checks and dance fitness sessions were conducted in line with the office’s goal of ensuring health and wellness among employees. The health checks included a blood pressure check, oximeter reading, and blood sugar/cholesterol testing. The event was followed by employee performances showcasing their dance and singing prowess. There were also games for employees and awarding of prizes afterward. To mark the program’s end, the employees joined the virtual learning session on “Women’s Occupational Safety and Health Issues Through Pandemic.”
As a simple token of gratitude to DOLE SDN’s women stakeholders, the office gave away folding fans to the walk-in clients. The people of DOLE SDN also observed the #Purple Tuesdays, where employees wear purple on all Tuesdays of March as a symbol of support for female empowerment and gender equality.
“Empowered women lead to a better future. Gender roles as to what jobs should be done by whom should be an individual’s choice, not society’s. The pressure and limitations put by society on women should be eradicated, and at DOLE SDN, our men and women are provided with equal opportunities,” Ms. May C. Velonta, SDN Field Office Head stated in one of her inspirational messages during the month-long celebration.
For the 1st Quarter of the year 2022, DOLE SDN has served a total of 8,355 female individuals benefiting from the various programs of DOLE such as the emergency employment of TUPAD, Livelihood, Labor and Employment Education Services, Labor Market Information, Registration of Workers Association, and JobSearch under Public Employment Services.
