In line with the 115th Labor Day celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)  Regional Office Caraga holds Job and Business Fairs at Robinson’s Place Atrium, Butuan City.

The activity started with an opening message by Atty. John Gil S. Unay, Sr. from LGU Butuan while, DOLE Caraga Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla delivered the message of Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III to all the Filipino workers which focused on the need for unity and solidarity in attaining change.

With this year’s theme, “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”, underscores the agency’s role in providing opportunities for decent work and economic growth as enshrined towards achieving full employment for all. RD Mantilla said that DOLE is adopting the concept of initiating a joint jobs and business fair in one single activity dubbed as “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan” (TNK).

On the other hand, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga Regional Director Mr. Brielgo Pagaran also gave an overview on Job and Business Fairs and TNK—an output of the partnership between DOLE and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). RD Mantilla also took the opportunity to explain to the audience what Department Order No. 174 is all about and the commitment of the Department to fully implement its provisions.

Awarding of the first Worker’s Organization Development Program (WODP) Scholar then commenced, where RD Chona M. Mantilla and Assistant Regional Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos handed the Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Jaen M. Yugtan who is a graduating student of Bachelor in Elementary Education at Caraga State University. Ms. Yugtan is also the dependent of Almont Inland Resort Labor Union Association President, Mr. Antonio P. Yugtan.

          Also, four beneficiaries received livelihood checks from DOLE Caraga namely: Barangay Baan Workers with Disability, Samahan sa Hanapbuhay at Kaunlaran Pang-Ekonomiya (Baan KM3 Women), Kitcharao and Jabonga Agriculture Cooperative and Lauan Village Displaced Workers Association.

Mr. Norman Bersalote, Agusan del Norte Focal Person spearheaded the release of salaries to TUPAD Beneficiaries of Brgy. Sto. Niño, Butuan City along with Regional Officials and Agusan del Norte Field Office Head, Mr. Herminigildo L. Daytoc. TUPAD is a community-based (municipality/barangay) packaged of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers.

As to the Job and Business Fairs, 620 applicants were registered and applied for jobs; ended with 148 applicants being Hired-On-The Spot (HOTS).

Aside from one-stop desks and legal services by agencies such as POEA, OWWA, TESDA, NCMB, NLRC, RTWBP and SSS for more comprehensive services to job seekers, new graduates and workers re-entering the labor market, Parlor Games were also made for entertainment. On the other hand, TESDA Caraga in collaboration with DOLE RO-13 offered a variety of services to all who joined the fairs which include Manicure, Pedicure and Massage.

DOLE Caraga continues to commit to provide decent jobs to every worker in the region and will further improve its program implementations for more successful employment. ©kav
