CAGDIANAO, DINAGAT ISLANDS – Last November 10, 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment Province of Dinagat Islands Satellite Office (DOLE PDISO) conducted its first 2022 Project Angel Tree at Bantilis Building, Brgy. Poblacion, Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.
With the theme “Karapatan at Kalagayan ng Batang Manggagawa: Sagipin, Tugunan at Protektahan ng Bayan,” the simple wishes of 30 identified child laborers from the Municipalities of Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose were granted through their sponsors or benefactors (also referred to as ‘angels’). From school supplies, toys, sports equipment, and apparel, the benefactors have made sure to grant the wishes on each of the child laborer’s wish lists.
The activity was made possible through the help of benefactors coming from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers of the Local Governments of Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose, the personnel of the Philippine National Police LGU-Cagdianao, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Environment and Natural Resources PDI, Municipal Social Welfare and Development – Cagdianao, Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), Southernphil Development and Marketing Corporation (SDMC), Office of the Provincial Governor of Dinagat Islands, Provincial Board Members of Dinagat Islands and private establishments in the province.
‘Nagpasalamat jud ko ani nga programa. Makatabang dyud siya sa amo (I am very thankful to this program. This program could really help us.),” one of the guardians of a profiled child laborer said.
In addition to filling the venue with the laughter and smiles of the child laborers, the activity also became an avenue to educate the department’s partners and stakeholders regarding the different interventions. DOLE PDISO Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) Focal Person Arnaldo A. Anito emphasized to the attendees the purpose of the program and how they can contribute to the elimination and prevention of child labor cases in the province. Partners from MSWDOs, PNP, PESO and LGU – Cagdianao also pledged to cooperate in eliminating child labor by affixing their signatures to the wall of commitment against child labor in the province.
The Project Angel Tree is a component of the DOLE Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP). This is one of two activities set to also celebrate National Children’s Day for November 2022. (NBC, CLPEP CF & JQG, LEO III-FNLI/DOLE PDISO).
