Province of Dinagat Islands – DOLE PDI actively participated in the celebration of the International Day of Forest in March 20, 2018 sponsored by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO). The common practice in commemorating this kind of activity is the synchronized tree planting in support to the objective of the Provincial Governor Glenda B. Ecleo on Verde-Dinagat Highway which aims to promote greener, healthier and happier place not only in the urban but also in the rural areas.
Approximately, 1,000 Agoho Tree most commonly known as “Pine Tree” were planted by the employees of the provincial local government unit and national line agencies along the national highway of Brgy. Cuarinta, San Jose, Dinagat Islands.
This global celebration of forests addressed the theme “Forests for sustainable cities” focused on how forests and trees regulate temperature and water flow, provide shelter, cleanse the air and foster community cohesion and individual well-being, among other benefits.
It also provides a platform to raise awareness on the importance of all types of woodlands and trees, and celebrates the ways in which to sustain and protect the nature.
