Surigao del Norte— The Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Norte Provincial Office together with the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), conducted a seminar on Employment Relations for Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) employees last August 24. The 64 participants were both from both Supervisory and Rank-and-file employees and its five contractors namely HPK Construction, Nickel Base Inc., Virlo Construction, Prince Ace and MIZPEH held at the TMC Compound, Claver, Surigao del Norte. The seminar was in response to the request of the management as a requirement to their application for ISO 9001:2015.

Mr. Earl Dela Victoria, Board Secretary VI of Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) XIII of Caraga Regional Office discussed about the Productivity Concept including sharing of experiences on productivity incentive bonus practiced by other companies. Objective was for TMC to replicate in the future the practice of other companies as one way to motivate employees. Moreover, Mr. dela Victoria also emphasized how they came up the latest minimum wage in the region.

Ms. Faith P. Gonzales, Labor and Employment Officer III of National Conciliation Mediation Board (NCMB) XIII, gave updates on their priority programs for large companies and SMEs. The Labor Management Cooperation (LMC) was already established in TMC. Ms. Gonzales also discussed the LMC for the participants to refresh their knowledge of the program. She also emphasized the importance and effectiveness of the Labor-Management Committee.

Ms. May C. Velonta, OIC-Provincial Head of the Department of Labor and Employment-Surigao del Norte Provincial Office, discussed about Labor Relations particularly on Bilateral and Trilateral aspects. She also emphasized the department’s thrust or directives on Protection of Workers’ Rights and Maintenance of Industrial Peace thru the partnership of the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC).  Ms. Felibeth C. Bonono discussed on General Labor Standards vis-a-vis the union Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions on Workers’ benefits.

The seminar hoped to encourage social partners to put into action and practice workplace cooperation at the plant level and strengthen partnership between employees and employer to uphold industrial peace and high morale of employees.
