As part of the “World Day Against Child Labor” celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment Agusan del Norte Field Office (DOLE ADNFO) spearheaded the conduct of Project Angel Tree on June 21, 2022, in Brgy. Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City.

With the theme “Karapatan at Kalagayan ng Batang Mangagawa: Sagipin, Tugunan, at Protektahan ng Bayan,” thirty-five (35) identified child laborers together with their parents from Barangay Puting Bato received packs of grocery items, 25 kilos of rice, hygiene kits, and advocacy t-shirts from their sponsors.

The beneficiaries were thankful to the department and their benefactors as they expressed messages of happiness and gratitude for the conduct of the event.

DOLE Caraga Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao conveyed his support to the children and their families, “The Department of Labor and Employment is exerting maximum effort in the prevention and elimination of child labor in the region. Through Project Angel Tree, DOLE and partners in government and the private sector will continue to assist the children and their families to steer them away from child exploitation.”

The event was attended by the Brgy. Captain of Brgy. Putting Bato, Hon. Joel B. Embalsado with his Barangay Kagawads, and the DOLE ADNFO team headed by Field Office Head Keith C. Duran and Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) Provincial Focal Person Ms. Maria Chelo R. Lucero.

Project Angel Tree, a component of DOLE CLPEP, represents a tree which bears fruits of social services that range from food, clothing, educational assistance or school supplies, and even work and training opportunities made available by sponsors or benefactors (‘angels’) to child laborers, children at risk of becoming child laborers or working children and their families.
