December 8, 2017 marks the 84th anniversary of the Department of Labor and Employment and DOLE Caraga joins the celebration to be done simultaneously in 17 regions throughout the country.

For DOLE Caraga the celebration will be held at the Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) gymnasium from 8am to 5pm.

With the theme, “Trabahong Marangal Para sa Lahat, Sabay-Sabay Natin Iangat”, the DOLE anniversary celebration will be marked by various activities such as the Job and Business Fair, commonly dubbed as Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK), release of livelihood assistance checks to selected, qualified beneficiaries and workers in the formal/ informal sector such as farmers, fisher folks, women and community workers, even company displaced workers.

Likewise, selected groups of immediate family members of those KIA-WIA (Killed-in-Action/Wounded-in-Action) during the Marawi Crisis will be given Kabuhayan or livelihood assistance.

As part of the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK), assistance and in coordination with other public sector agencies as the DTI, TESDA, NBI, SSS, Philhealth, Pag-ibig, DOLE attached agencies such as the NLRC, NCMB, OWWA, POEA, ECC (Employees Compensation Commission), PRC (Professional Regulations Commission), OSHC (Occupational Safety and Health Center) and the NRCO (National Reintegration Center for OFWs), services offered by the aforementioned agencies will be readily available to workers and the public in general.  These include employment and business counselling, processing of documents and selected services as well as answering queries.

Health and wellness services by TESDA graduates as well as games, Larong Pinoy will also be offered.  The celebration will start with a church mass to be held at the St. Joseph Cathedral, to be followed by a motorcade, a Zumba session at the Rizal Park onward to the job and business fair/TNK at the FSUU gym.

Likewise considered an important part of the 84th DOLE Anniversary celebration is the Forum-Social Dialogue with the Mining Sector Industry partners and stakeholders on December 7-8 at the Oasiz Hotel, Butuan City.  Entitled, “Capacity-Building on Social Dialogue for a Just Transition and OSH in Mining Sector”, the activity is sponsored by ILO- International Labor Organization, Manila with DOLE-Caraga, MGB-DENR.

This will be participated by trade unions involved in the mining sector in Caraga region, representatives from national federations, labor-management, safety officers/ health workers in the mining industry, partners and stakeholders.  Objective is to enable them to understand issues concerning environmental sustainability and decent work in the sector; and how to use social dialogue, including collective bargaining to improve safety and health issues and ensure a just transition.

Moreover, as part of the anniversary celebration, a press conference in coordination with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will be held on December 7, a day ahead of the December 8 anniversary celebration at the VCDU Prince Hotel and Convention Center located at South Montilla Boulevard in Butuan City.

It may be noted that as of November 2017, DOLE Caraga has already given around 6.4M for 735 beneficiaries of livelihood/ Kabuhayan assistance; 22.3M for 9,780 SPES beneficiaries or Special Program for Employment of Students; 26.9M for 4,886 grantees of TUPAD or Tulong Pangkabuhayan Assistance for Displaced Workers.  Likewise, under the K to 12 program 200 thousand pesos was allotted to assist displaced workers and teachers, by providing financial assistance, employment facilitation and livelihood opportunities.
