June 14, 21017— “The tassel in indeed worth the hassle.”

Jaen M. Yugtan, the first ever DOLE Caraga Worker’s Organization Development Program (WODP) scholar graduate, among other scholars, brimmed with happiness and pride as she marched along with the eight hundred seventy-two (872) graduates during the 40th Pre-Commencement Exercises at Caraga State University, Ampayon, Butuan City.

Despite her hurdles and family’s struggles, the 20-year old Bachelor of Elementary Education graduate didn’t just aim for success, she strived hard, prayed for it and made her dreams turn into reality. “I never thought I could still continue to college and earn a degree. But here I am, marching my way to graduation. This is a dream come true and I could never have achieved this without the DOLE’s big help,” she said.

Her father, Mr. Antonio P. Yugtan, equally proud and happy of his daughter’s achievement, who is also Almont Inland Resort Labor Union Association President, made Jaen qualified to avail the said scholarship program. “I’m very grateful for this scholarship, since the grant of WODP is extended not only to us workers who are members of union or workers’ organizations but also to our dependents.” Mr. Yugtan added that when he learned about the WODP scholarship of the DOLE, he found some hope for the education of her daughter and this dream finally came true.

Through WODP, dependents of active union members are given opportunities to continue education with a full tuition fee, monthly stipend of ₱3,000.00 and other allowances to be given by DOLE.©kav
