October 8, 2021 – Fifty seven (57) Home-based Workers benefited from DOLE Caraga’s financial assistance amounting to P800,000.00 for the establishment of Fitness, Sports Training and Development Gym in Magallanes, Agusan del Norte. The official launching of the first and only fitness gym in the said municipality was spearheaded by Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao, together with LGU-Magallanes Municipal Mayor Cesar C. Cumba, Jr., Barangay Hubang Kagawad Jeffrey B. Virtudazo, Jr. and the President of Buhang Home-based Workers Association Mr. Ringo Ogcang on October 8, 2021. The gym is equipped with complete basic machines and equipment like cardiovascular machines, treadmills, rowing machine, elliptical machine, upright bike, barbells, dumbbells, etc.
The project is a grant assistance to the fifty-seven (57) home-based workers who are active members of the Buhang Home-based Workers Association. The beneficiary-association is composed of under-employed youths in the municipality whose primary source of income are home-based self-employment like personal training, tutorials, buying and selling of locally produced goods, and other skills-based services and livelihood undertakings.
The project is also supported by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Agusan del Norte through its President, Hon. Keefe Blue R. Leonar, Magallanes PESO Manager Bebiana Ago and the entire Barangay Council of Buhang.
The beneficiaries were very thankful to the convergence of the local government unit and the national government for the intervention considering that community quarantines for COVID-19 pandemic are still in place and employment opportunities in the formal economy are also low. As pointed out by the beneficiary-association President, Mr. Ringo Ogcang, “Nagapasalamat gyud mi sa livelihood grant gikan sa DOLE pinaagi kay sir Joffrey (Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao) og sir Keith (Provincial Head Keith C. Duran) kay kini makatabang ug dako sa among panginabuhian. Bisan tuod kulang pa mi sa kumpleto nga mga trainings, kini nga proyekto among paningkamutan nga mulambo”.
The DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) is the Department’s contribution to the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction. It is a grant assistance for capacity building on livelihood for the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers, either for individual or group livelihood undertakings.
