Surigao City – DOLE Caraga Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao with DOLE Surigao del Norte Provincial Head May C. Velonta awarded the Safety Seal Certification to Pacific Nickel Philippines, Inc. (PNPI) at Brgy. Talisay, Nonoc Island, Surgao City on November 4, 2021.

On October 27, 2021, the validation team of DOLE Surigao del Norte provincial office visited the mine site of PNPI to verify compliance to the minimum public health standards and other requirements of the Safety Seal Certification.

PNPI, a nickel mining company is a subsidiary of Clariden Holdings, Inc. Currently, the Nonoc Nickel Project is in the exploration stage. The project has a total of 61 direct hires with one (1) contractor with 86 workers. “The measures we provide are not just compliances but assurance of safety for everyone in the workplace. This safety seal award gives us hope of a brighter side of this COVID-19 pandemic.” says Engr. Ricardo P. Ugalde, Acting Resident Manager of Pacific Nickel Philippines. Inc.

RD Suyao commended PNPI for voluntarily initiating to have its mine site inspected for certification as DOLE continues to encourage mining companies to apply for the Safety Seal Certification considering that mining operation is classified as high risk in nature. 

The Safety Seal Certification affirms that an establishment is complaint to the minimum health standards set by the government to mitigate the Covid-19 virus. Obtaining the Safety Seal shall be at no cost to the establishment. The Safety Seal shall be valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance, except for those issued to tourism enterprises which shall be valid for one (1) year.

The Safety Seal Certification is a voluntary certification scheme that affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph.
