Butuan City– In the pursuit of continuous improvement for quality service, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga was marked ‘recertified’ and transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 by the Certification International Philippines (CIPI) last July 20. After being recertified under ISO 9001:2008 last December 2017, the DOLE Caraga has intensified its preparation for the transition to 9001:2015 version. Months of several preparatory activities and consultations were done prior to the week-long audit.
On July 16-20, CIPI auditors, namely: Julius Andrew Bonina, Paul Timothy Hupanda, and Kim Allan Miranda, went to the different DOLE offices and culminated the audit at the regional office. The areas of evaluation were anchored on the three organizational outcomes of DOLE Regional Office namely: Enhanced Employability of Workers and Competitiveness of MSMEs; Ensured Protection of Worker’s Rights and Maintenance of Industrial Peace; and Strengthened Social Protection for Vulnerable Workers. Performance based on the non-core indicators of the OPCR (Office Performance Commitment and Review) were also assured. Each of the process holders were scrutinized and assessed by the keen evaluators.
“This is a conformity audit at marami po kaming nakitang conformity sa inyong system kaya po [namin] ni recommend kayo,” (We recommended you for recertification because we have found several conformities in this conformity audit. Miranda cited during the post-audit conference.
The evaluation was done to assure that the DOLE Caraga offices conform to the international standards which implies that the said agency has uniformity in the structure of different quality management systems.
“ISO certification is important to us because it will enhance delivery of the office’s programs and services that will win the trust and confidence of our clients—it is always for our clients.” This was the response of DOLE Caraga Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla when she was asked by one of the auditors regarding the significance of the accreditation.
In her closing remarks, Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla emphasized the importance of sustainability in the delivery of quality services. According to her, sustainability is always the hardest part. “It’s always been a hard day for all of us, however, it is our role to do our best to satisfy our clients,” Director Mantilla said. The director also gave her heartfelt appreciation to the DOLE staff and personnel acknowledging their hard work which made the audit recertification a success.
