DOLE Agusan del Sur Provincial Office, in partnership with MSRS Safety, Health and Environment Training Services Inc., conducted an Occupational Safety and Health Training on February 27, 2020.
Thirty-eight (38) representatives from different establishments categorized as low to medium risk across Agusan del Sur participated in the training. A “low risk” establishment has a total number of 1-50 workers; while “medium risk” is with 1-90 workers.
The1-day training covered the mandatory eight (8) hours for Safety Officer 1(SO1) and two (2) hours for Training of Trainers (TOT). Facilitated by MSRS, the importance of safety and health was emphasized during the entire activity. According to Engr. Santiago L. Saludes, MSRS Training Manager, “Safety is for everyone. It is the most neglected part in a company or establishment, yet it has a great impact if circumstances arrive. It cost cheap to implement but costly to answer the effects and consequences of the problems that may occur.”
Modules discussed included the basic concept of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC), administrative reporting, workplace emergency preparedness, and trainer’s training. The participants were evaluated and certified as Safety Officer 1 after a successful completion of the entire course. The new set of Safety Officers would serve as an OSH implementer in their respective establishment.
The Occupational Safety and Health Training is a requirement in every establishment under Republic Act 11058 or An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof.
