Surigao del Sur—The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Surigao del Sur Provincial Office conducted an orientation on Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program (TUPAD) orientation for the 15 displaced workers of Stanfilco-Banana Division held at the Mayor’s Office of the Local Government Unit-Tago, Surigao del Sur on November 26.

“The Local Government of Tinago is grateful to have 15 slots for TUPAD especially for the workers of Stanfilco who went jobless after the closure of the company. Rest assured that the LGU will further support this program of DOLE knowing that this will benefit workers,” Mayor Rogelio Pimentel of Tinago said in his opening message.

The TUPAD beneficiaries will be given 20 days starting November 26-December 17 of this year to plant vegetables with complete assistance from DOLE such as seedlings and farm tools. The Municipal Agriculture’s Office of Tinago will also provide equipment as well as a technician to assist the workers. Some of these beneficiaries, however, will be assigned to Municipal Integrated Agriculture Center in which they will engage into planting trees in a seven-hectare area in Tinago.

It can be recalled that multinational banana firm-Stanfilco announced its closure and shutting down of operations last August 20. The company has over 1 thousand workers employed.
