Tandag City – DOLE- Surigao del Sur Provincial Office with the collaborative effort of the Province of Surigao del Sur through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO) initiated a Capacity Building Program and Re-Organization of the Network of Career Coaches & Advocates and PESO Managers on July 19, 2019, at the Training Center, Provincial Agriculture Office in Telaje, Tandag City.

Highlights of the activity included the discussions on the matter of Paradigms about Work & Career and the Role of Career Guidance in Shaping the Future Workforce discussed by Ms. Maristela C. Gales, the President of the Caraga Network of Career Coaches and Advocates; Future of Work and the Evolving Workplace: Global and Regional Perspective presented by Ms. Lilian M. Solis, Sr. LEO of DOLE Caraga and the Technological Change and Its Impact on Education and Labor Market Information by Ms. Olga Virginia D. Asis, ISA II of DOLE Caraga and the Surigao del Sur Situationer on the Child Labor and Elimination Program by Ms. Maria Chelo R. Lucero, LEO III.

Ms. Genebelle B. Bal, DOLE-SDS Provincial Head, appreciated the presence of the participants coming from the different schools in Surigao del Sur, according to her “this is the beginning of the collaboration of the network in the conduct of career guidance advocacy program, including the other DOLE programs such as labor market information, continuing labor education program and the labor education for graduating students to address the prevalent problems of job mismatch”.

After the discussions, an election of the new set of officers of the Surigao del Sur Network of Career Coaches and Advocates was conducted. The new officers are the following:

Mr. Marcos M. Quico, the Provincial PESO Manager of SDS, inspired his co-advocate to transform the office of career counselors as an operating room to develop the mindset of the students in terms of choosing the right careersaying “I assure the Network officers and members that the Provincial PESO and the DOLE will be supporting all its endeavors to implement the CGAP”.  He likewise commits to provide budget for the regular meetings of its officers.

The program strengthens the Surigao del Sur Network of Career Coaches and Advocates which composes of guidance advocates from different schools and all the PESO Managers of the province by giving them the capacity building seminar specifically on the new concepts and strategies for the Career Guidance Advocacy Program. Likewise, re-organizing the network to update its new members and officers and together create the 2019 Career Guidance Advocacy Plan.
