The Department of Labor and Employment -Surigao Del Sur Field Office (DOLE-SDSFO) turned over on May 28, P 475, 350 to the Local Government Unit of Cortes for the Mudcrab Fattening Project of the Asosasyon Lig-onon Dagat Amomahon Balaod Sundon (ALDABS), Nagpakabanang Mananagat sa Barobo (NAMABAR) and Sabang Youth Orgranization, wherein each association received P158,450.

The livelihood assistance was released during the Local Government Unit’s (LGU) Monday convocation program facilitated by Ms. Emelyn M. Dublas, PESO Manager, as well as the employees of LGU-Cortes in the presence of Vice Mayor Emmanuel C. Suarez and Sangunian Bayan members.  A total of 141 members of the association benefited the said livelihood assistance.

In a simple turn over ceremony, Vice Mayor Suarez, expressed his gratitude to DOLE for the never-ending and valuable support extended to the municipality of Cortes. While employees in the private and government sector received their mid-year bonuses, the associations considered also the livelihood assistance as their mid-year bonus from the Department of Labor and Employment.

In her message, Ms. Genebelle B. Bal, field office head of DOLE SDSFO reminded the beneficiaries to take care of the funds entrusted to them because not all rural worker’s associations were given opportunity similar to what they have received. Moreover, she emphasized that the main objective of the program is to augment their living conditions. DOLE is hopeful that the project will serve its purpose—that is to improve the lives of the members with the support of the LGU of Cortes.

The Presidents of ALDABS and NAMABAR, Mr. Gueldelito D. Rivera, and Mr. Eljon D. Bontor extended their appreciation for the livelihood assistance given to the associations hoping that all beneficiaries will continue to value this opportunity in changing their lives for the better.
