Preserving life, alleviating suffering, preventing further illness or injury, and promoting recovery—these are the goals of a first aid provider.

In simple terms, First Aid is the initial assistance given to a victim of injury or illness.

In partnership with Philippine Red Cross- Agusan del Sur Chapter, DOLE conducted training that yielded 89 Certified First Aiders. The training was conducted from September 30 to October 1, 2019, for the first batch; October 2 and 3 for the second batch.

Rigorous training is required to become a Certified First-aider.

Certified first-aider refers to any person trained and duly certified to administer first aid by the Philippine Red Cross or any organization authorized by the Secretary of Labor and Employment. (RA No. 11058, Chapter 2, Section 3: a)

Basic First Aid knowledge is comprised of relatively simple techniques and procedures that can be performed with limited equipment and is typically carried out until professional medical assistance arrives.

Everyone is susceptible to injuries: it can be lethal if first aid treatment is not administered.

According to Republic Act No. 11058 Chapter 1, (An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof) it is mandated that the State shall ensure a safe and healthful workplace for all working people by affording them full protection against all hazards in their work environment. According to this Law, all establishments should have a Certified First-Aider proportionate to the number of the employee and in the Risk Category.

This training ensures that all the establishments will be able to administer an immediate first aid remedy in times of necessity. The Philippine Red Cross will make sure that all of your attendees will be able to learn and be a certified First Aider, as per requirement by the DOLE guidelines. This training will be until the evening of every day just to make sure that upon graduating in this training, you will be hailed a Certified First-Aider. On behalf of our Provincial Administrator, Ms. Darwina Ligan, our deepest thanks to the DOLE personnel headed by their Chief LEO Ms. Jocelyn L. Bastareche and to all the staff of the Provincial Office. We will do our best to deliver the very best knowledge and also to you, a challenge to absorb all the learning inputs we will give on the duration of the training.” (Leopoldo C. Cinco III, CSR-SS, Philippine Red Cross-Agusan del Sur)

One of the trainees, Mr. Jerson D. Gomonid shared his thoughts and stated “There were several establishments that were invited and RD Pawnshop, INC is one of them. During the two-day training, different expectations were at hand. The training was truly intense as we were oriented before it was started. The good thing that happened as to my personal experience and views, after the training was, the knowledge of basic, immediate and practical response of any unnecessary circumstances like road accident, heatstroke, heart attacked, nose bleeding, poisoned and other incidents that give imminent danger to the life of human being was attained and acquired by the participants. The whole training is remarkable since the purpose was served and the expectations were met beyond the limit.”

Becoming certified First-Aider not only benefits you as an individual but it extends to your family, friends, co-workers and even the community as a whole. It is the preparation of the unavoidable.
