The Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) team of the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Sur Field Office (DOLE SDSFO) conducted a series of advocacy awareness activities on the issues of child labor and its impact on the development of children from June 24 to July 19, 2022. A total of 4,409 Surigaonons attended the program held in 11 Local Government Units of Surigao del Sur, namely; the municipalities of Cantilan, Tago, Carrascal, San Miguel, Lianga, Marihatag, Tandag City, Madrid, Cortes, Carmen, and Bayabas.

The DOLE Community Facilitators also conveyed the DOLE initiatives, programs, and services for the child laborers and their families during the event. In line with the efforts of the DOLE SDSFO, 180 parents and guardians of child laborers availed of the emergency employment through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers -a social amelioration program of DOLE providing emergency employment for the workers in the informal sector.

The DOLE CLPEP team profiled 312 child laborers in the said municipalities. DOLE SDS is in continuing work, exerting its maximum effort in providing help to the most vulnerable sector in order to ensure a brighter future for the children in the province.
