In its goal to provide accessible, speedy, impartial, and inexpensive settlement procedures, the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Sur Provincial Office (DOLE SDSPO) facilitated the settlement workers’ Requests for Assistance (RFA) through the Single-Entry Approach (SENA) Program. 81 workers received a total monetary claim of P1,864,945.93, resulting in an 80% settlement rate in 2021.
Despite restrictions due to the pandemic, DOLE Surigao del Sur was able to respond promptly to issues and concerns in the workplace. The Single-Entry Assistance Desk Officers (SEADO) conducted conciliation-mediation of labor-related concerns through online platforms such as Zoom, Messenger Room, and Google Meet. This helped expedite settlements, clarify issues, and even restore harmonious relationship between employees and employers while educating both parties on labor standards.
“My work as a waiter was very difficult since we weren’t paid with our entitlements. Thankfully, DOLE helped us with our concerns thru SENA. I received P80,000.00 as an amicable settlement. This will help me start a small business to support my family, especially in this time of crisis,” said Mr. Albert Patindongan, an employee of a catering service business in Bislig City. His issues include overtime pay, holiday pay, and 13th-month pay.
DOLE Caraga Regional Director Joffrey Suyao commends the SEADOs in the region for their efforts to resolve labor issues and conflicts amicably as the department campaigns for preservation of employment and maintenance of industrial peace.
