Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga headed by Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla, CESO III, conducted the 2019 PESO Year End Performance Assessment (YEPA) at Almont Inland Resort, Butuan City on December 2-4, 2019, participated by PESO Managers and focal persons.

The 3-day activity presented accomplishment reports and updates by the PESO Managers and focal persons. It also revisited the PESO’s vision and mission, addressed issues and concerns on the program implementation, and served as an avenue for the participants to share their strategies and best practices of PESO in each jurisdiction. Further, exemplary efforts of PESO Managers and focal persons were acknowledged as one of the highlights of the event.

Participants from different provinces of Caraga Region arrived in the morning of December 2, 2019. In the afternoon, the 4th Quarter PESO Meeting was held presided by Ms. Divina P. Lagumbay, President of Caraga PESO Federation. The constitution and by-laws was presented by Mr. Tomas O. Tenet, Provinicial PESO Manager of Agusan del Norte. Concerns regarding some of the articles were raised such as the specification whether associate members (LCEs) should pay the yearly amount of Php 1,000 to the organization, the term of service of the PESO Managers, and the revising of the name of the association among others.  After their discussion, it was agreed to change the name of the association to PESO Managers Caraga Regional League Incorporated (PESOMCarL).

Aside from the PESO Managers and their provincial heads, present in the second day were DOLE Caraga Regional PESO Focal Person Ms. Lilian Solis, and TSSD OIC Chief Ms. Annie Tangpos. One of the highlights of the day was the inspirational message given by RD Chona Mantilla. She talked about the story of how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet as a reflection of keeping oneself grounded while showing goodness to others especially in the government service.

PESO Managers presented the achievements of PESO implementation in their respective provinces for the year 2019. The presenters were the following: Ms. Divina P. Lagumbay of Agusan del Sur, Mr. Tomas O. Tener of  Agusan del Norte, Mr. James Soria of Surigao del Sur, Mr. Emil Pantejo of  Surigao del Norte, and Ms. Jeraldine B. Camporedondo for the Province of Dinagat Islands. Each one of them showed a video presentation highlighting the improvement of their province more particularly its labor force through PESO.

At latter part of the day, participants were busy for the preparation of the denim-inspired PESO Christmas Party that was held during the night. The fun-filled party included exchanging of gifts, raffles, and showing off of talents through singing and dancing. The event started with a prayer led by Ms. Lilian M. Solis. After dinner was the parade of the PESO Managers from the different provinces together with their provincial heads. Representative from each province sang and dance as an intermission number. All of them gamely joined the ZUMBA and enjoyed the live band. Everyone went home with a gift and a smile on his/her faces.

On the 3rd day, a personality development seminar was facilitated by Ms. Fe Jennifer Perez, a speaker of personality development course. The main objectives of the seminar were (1) to educate the PESO Managers on how to deal with employees who have different personalities; and (2) to be able to carefully assess the capabilities and potentials of each employee according to their unique personality in order to assign jobs that best fit them. Ms. Perez discussed the four temperaments that distinguished a persons’ personality, namely: choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic; and how each affect work performance. She cited examples of how employees with jobs that does not fit their temperaments struggle to become efficient and productive. The seminar was relatable and participatory, which the participants openly shared their own experiences on the topic discussed.

The 2019 PESO Awards Night was held on the night of December 4, 2019 at DOLE Caraga Office. Headed by Ms. Solis, Regional PESO focal person, PESO Managers with excellent performance were awarded with plaques and cash incentives. Regional Director Chona Mantilla and Assistant Regional Directo Naomi Lyn Abellana awarded the winners together with respective provincial heads of Caraga, namely: Mr. Kieth Dura, Agusan del Norte; Jocelyn Bastareche, Agusan del Sur; May C. Velonta, Surigao del Norte; and Genebelle Bal, Surigao del Sur. Nominees were also acknowledged as well as those who have rendered service in the PESO program for more than 2 years.

YEPA 2019 ended recognizing the success of the program for the entire year with hopes that it will be equally successful in 2020.
