The COVID-19 Pandemic has shaken the country, exposing the vulnerability in various sectors of the nation. Caraga Region took a heavy toll from the effects of the pandemic with displaced workers from different sectors continuously increasing as businesses adopted flexible working arrangements while others temporarily or permanently closes.
As some establishments were not allowed to operate, the provision of financial assistance to displaced workers became an effective short-term solution for the abrupt job displacement to restore the region’s economy.
Through the Bayanihan3 Initiative, the Department of Labor and Employment deployed COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program 3 (CAMP 3). CAMP 3 is a safety net providing one-time financial assistance to affected workers in the formal sector affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic as various areas in the country implemented Alert Level 3 to limit the exposure to the looming virus.
In implementation of CAMP3, the Department of Labor and Employment Surigao del Sur Field Office (DOLE SDSFO) released ₱595,000.00 financial aid to 119 displaced workers in the Province of Surigao del Sur. Through this, the beneficiaries were able to provide for their basic needs while looking for new employment.
Currently, 961 CAMP 3 beneficiaries in the region have received assistance amounting to P4, 805,000.00. Each beneficiary received P 5,000.00 as a stop-gap measure to cope with unemployment during crisis.
The cash assistance provided by the Department has helped workers endure the effects of the pandemic. As the COVID-19 cases continue to decline and mobility restrictions eases, it is projected that the employment rate will continue to increase and strengthen the labor sector’s backbone as we recover as a nation.
