On August 29, 2021, 102 Caraganons were repatriated to Butuan City. They were among the 312 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Ethiopia who arrived in Cebu City via chartered flight on August 10, 2021. Their work ceased due to political conflicts and the prevailing COVID 19 pandemic.
“Daghang Salamat sa pag areglar sa amo” expressed one of the 102 OFWs. OWWA, in coordination with DOLE Caraga, gave out food packs and provided orientation on possible livelihood program availments and scholarships such as DOLE AKAP, Tabang OFW, Balik Pinay Balik Hanap Buhay, Reintegration Program and Entrepreneurship Development & Loan Program.
“DOLE and OWWA already released over P37,190,000 in financial assistance to our displaced OFWs, with 3,323 DOLE AKAP beneficiaries and 132 Tabang OFW beneficiaries. DOLE and OWWA are committed to facilitate the provision of livelihood and financial assistance for these repatriated OFWs”, stated Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, Regional Director of DOLE Caraga.
OFWs who were from Dinagat Province were transported on the same night upon arrival, while the Siargao-based OFWs were billeted to partner hotels in Butuan City. They were provided transportation to their respective homes on the following day. A series livelihood webinar is soon to be scheduled so they can immediately apply for the said programs.
