Surigao del Sur – The DOLE-Surigao del Sur Provincial Office released P1,486,416.98 worth of financial assistance for the livelihood projects of three (3) Rural Workers Associations in Carmen, Surigao del Sur and P418,500.00 to Kamayo Producers’ Cooperative, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

On April 12, 2018, 3 checks were released to the local government of Carmen, Surigao del Sur, in a simple awarding ceremony held at San Antonio, Carmen, Surigao del Sur. The amount is DOLE’s counterpart in the Flower Garden Nursery and Handicraft Souvenir Store of Carmen Rural Improvement Club Federation with total members of 108 in the amount of P214,539.00; Purchase of Farm Cultivator/ Rotavator with Trailer for the Sta. Cruz Lanang Irrigators Association with membership of 113, in the amount of P1,000,000.00; and Acquisition of Vermite Brewer and Shredder Machine for the Antao Palay Check Farmers Association with membership of 45, in the amount of P271,877.98.

“The financial assistance given by DOLE will be of great help to the association because this will give positive results to its respective livelihood projects and thus will augment the income of the families which is also one of the objectives of the project”, according to Mayor Jane V. Plaza of LGU Carmen.

The Kamayo Producers’ Cooperative of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur requested assistance for its African Hito Project. The cooperative started its first venture with African Hito using their own resources with 12,000 fingerlings. This, however, failed. When Mayor Shem G. Garay, Local Chief Executive of Hinatuan, heard about it, he extended assistance to the cooperative to start anew with P30,000.00 using the personal pond of one of their members. After a positive result, the cooperative decided to apply for livelihood assistance from DOLE-Caraga for enhancement with Barangay Local Government Unit of Bigaan, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as their accredited co-partner.

“I am thankful for the assistance given by DOLE through this livelihood program. I believe that this project will have a positive result since I have witnessed how the cooperative overcame hardships in recovering from its previous failures”, Mayor Garay of LGU-Hinatuan said.
