6,178 individuals participate in the kick-off of Surigao del Norte’s Career Guidance and Labor Educa

Surigao del Norte- A total of 6,178 participated in the province of Surigao del Norte’s first Career Guidance and Labor Education activity for the year 2021.

 

A Career Guidance and Labor Education Webinar via Zoom Video Conference and Facebook live was conducted on March 17, 2021The activity was facilitated by DOLE Surigao del Norte Provincial Office (DOLE SDNPO) in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) SDN Division, and the provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO). This was participated by the graduating Senior High School students together with their parents, DepEd faculty, guidance counselors, and career advocates in the province.

 

Significant and relevant topics were presented from DOLE, DepEd and PESO. Guidance Counselors from selected National High Schools in the division discussed guidance services and senior high school strands. Labor Education and the Basic Labor Laws was explained by DOLE SDN Labor and Employment Officer Cornelius Mahinay. One of the highlights of the webinar was the presentation of the first career guidance module on work productivity developed by the National Wages Productivity Commission (NWPC). This was presented by Mr. Emilio S. Pantejo, the Provinicial PESO Manager of SDN.

 

The School Division Superintendent Ms. Maria Teresa M. Real opened the program with her inspirational message on the relevance of the career guidance program of the government. DOLE SDN Provincial Head gave her closing remarks encouraging the participants to actively get involved with the program.

 

The activity is relative to the Memorandum DM-OUCI-2021-0015 signed by the Undersecretary in Curriculum and Instruction of DepEd, which requires to conduct career guidance activities to Grade 12 Senior High School students from March 15, 2021.

 

Career Guidance and Advocacy Program is a government initiative to guide students in choosing their career choices to become productive citizens. Due to the onset of Covid-19, the implementation of the program was deferred in 2020. The successful webinar conducted in SDN is a milestone for DOLE, DepEd, and PESO to implement the program adapting to the new normal amid the pandemic.
