656 members of DOLE registered Worker's Association receive P1.9M Livelihood Assistance

Thousands of informal sectors have been registered to Department of Labor and Employment-Surigao del Sur Provincial Office since 2011. These informal sectors are classified into farmers, fishermen, PWDs, former rebels and other agricultural workers. This year, a running total number of 149 associations with 5,398 members are recorded.

With the economic downturn brought about by the pandemic, workers from the informal sectors are the most vulnerable. Thus, the National Government Agencies including the Department of Labor and Employment have been looking for ways to cushion the impact and to help these informal sectors.

In Surigao del Sur, Department of Labor and Employment assisted 9 associations that applied for DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP). These includes the Ibuan Peace Farmers Organization, Indigenous People Former Rebels Organization, KP Fishermen Association of San Roque, KP United Fisherfolk Association of Bislig City, Ayoke Conservation Enterprise, Sitio Cabito-onan Fisherfolk Association, KASAMA KITA Association, Marihatag Tricycle Drivers and Operators Association and Diatagon Manyayay St. Christine Drivers-Operators Association.

As of September 2020, a total amount of P1,977,100.00 worth of livelihood materials and equipment benefiting 656 members was released through the Local Government Units, accredited co-partner of DOLE Livelihood Program. The LGU only needs to comply the necessary requirements for the qualification to avail of the said programs. Non-Government Organizations need to comply the Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) Accreditation Requirements to avail.

With the help of Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the DOLE-SDSPO hopes that the assistance provided to the informal sector through DILP will help strengthen the community’s ability to cope with the adverse effects hauled by the pandemic.
