Mother of a police killed in action,

DOLE Caraga extends livelihood assistance

 

August 22, 2017Mrs. Daylinda Cañete, mother of the late PO1 Sharmaine Cañete, who was killed by unidentified armed men in a road checkpoint along the national highway in Brgy. Tabon-tabon, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur last May 16, 2017 received livelihood assistance amounting to P20,000.00 from the Department of Labor and Employment Caraga, through its Agusan del Sur Field Office, for her project entitled “Sari-sari Store” under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program.

 

The assistance, consisting various items to be sold in her “sari-sari” store, was awarded to her during the Municipal Convergence Advisory Committee Meeting at Sibagat Municipal Hall last August 22, 2017 by DOLE Caraga Regional Director Chona M. Mantilla, CESO III, together with Sibagat Vice Mayor Allan M. Lañas, Saguniang Bayan Member and Chair of the SB Committee on Social Cluster, Hon. Diosdado Villarivera, Chief of Police, Police Senior Inspector Rodel Durado, Public Employment Service Office Manager, Mr. Noel B. Pan, and DOLE Agusan del Sur Provincial Head, Mr. Keith C. Duran.

 

Mrs. Cañete was speechless during the awarding activity as she always get emotional every time she is reminded of the incident. However, Vice Mayor Lañas expressed his appreciation in behalf of Mayor Maria Liza L. Evangelista to the department for the assistance not only to Mrs. Cañete but also to the rest of his constituents through the latter’s various projects in employment and livelihood.

 

Vice Mayor Lañas also described the livelihood program of DOLE as an example of a concrete intervention of the government in addressing poverty with which the Convergence Committee should recognize and support.

 

On the other hand, Senior Inspector Durado, who was speaking in behalf of the Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Public Safety Company, was surprised and thankful of the assistance given to his departed comrade since many of the members of the PNP were not aware of the said program.

 

 

Director Mantilla extended her condolences to Mrs. Cañete and the rest of the bereaved family members. In her message, she explained the livelihood program of DOLE and its role to augment income of the poor and those needing immediate livelihood assistance. She also recognized the efforts of the different offices and persons responsible in realizing the said assistance.

 

“This livelihood assistance, along with other assistance from the different government agencies, could not bring back the life of PO1 Cañete, however, the program seeks to recognize the dedication and noble sacrifices of soldiers and policemen and raise the morale of their beneficiaries.” RD Mantilla said. ©DOLEADSFO
